Pebble finishes hide calcium until the whole shallow end turns gray. We lift the haze out of the aggregate and bring the color back, with the pool full.

Finishes we clean

The color is still under there.

Calcium sits in the texture of a pebble finish and across the top of plaster. It reads as gray or chalky white. The finish underneath is usually fine once the scale is off.

How it works

How pebble gets its color back

Four steps, pool full, usually a morning.

  1. Check the finish

    Check the finish

Pebble, quartz or plaster, and how deep the scale sits. That sets a gentler media and pressure than tile.

  2. Blast the haze

    Blast the haze

The calcium lifts out of the texture a section at a time. The aggregate stays put.

  3. Detail the ledges

    Detail the ledges

Steps, benches and shelves are where calcium sits thickest. They get finished by hand.

Good questions

Pebble & plaster calcium removal questions, answered.

Straight answers from the Aqua Doctor team. If you don't see your question, give us a call.

No. Bead blasting is done with the pool full. We work from the deck, and the media is captured as we go rather than ending up in the water.

No. The media is soft and the pressure is set below what the finish can take. It is acid that loosens pebbles, by eating the cement that holds them.

Usually calcium if it is chalky, rough to the touch and worst at the waterline and on shelves. Stains are smooth and darker. We can tell you on site, and a stain is a different fix.

Two to four hours for a waterline and ledges. A full shallow end takes longer.

Phoenix water is hard, so it always returns. Most pools look good for a year or two. Keeping calcium hardness and pH in range slows it down, and we will tell you where yours sits.

It is priced by the length of the waterline or the size of the surface and how heavy the buildup is, quoted before we come out. Combining it with a leak check on the same visit saves a trip charge.
